Odisha Woman Donates Property: 63-year-old Minati Patnaik has donated her three-story house, gold ornaments, and all her possessions to a rickshaw puller. Reason? The lady wanted to acknowledge him for 25 years of service to her and her family.
Minati had lost her husband to kidney failure last year. Her daughter also died of cardiac arrest recently. She, therefore, planned to donate all her property to the family of the rickshaw puller who had served Minati and her husband for 25 years.
In an interview, Minati Pattnaik said that she was heartbroken when her husband and daughter died in quick succession. None of her relatives supported her after her tragic loss. However, the rickshaw puller and his family stood by her during her difficult times and even looked after her without expecting anything in return.
"My relatives have enough property, and I've always wanted to give mine to a poor family", she said adding that she decided to legally donate everything to Budha and his family so that no one harasses them after she dies.
She explained how he used to drive her daughter to Ravenshaw College. He was also the family's rickshaw puller. She said that the family deserved this award.
It wasn't a smooth sailing, Minati mentioned. Two of Minati's three sisters objected to her decision but she was firm on her decision.
The rickshaw puller was both shocked and elated when he got to know about her decision. He said he will continue serving the family until his death. The wife also mentioned that she, her husband and her children always considered the lady as their own mother.
