Odisha Minor Girl Forcibly Kissed, 5 Detained For Ragging, Sexual Harassment

Another incident of ragging came to light, this time in it is from Odisha. A video of a minor girl student went viral. In the video, a college fresher was forced to kiss a minor girl.

After the video went viral, five students, including two minors, were taken into custody under multiple charges including sexual harassment. The 12 students involved in the incident are expelled by the college authorities in the Ganjam district.

Odisha Minor Girl Sexually Harassed

Video shows- A boy forcibly kissed a first-year minor student, who joined the government college last month. The boy is being instigated by his seniors to kiss the girl present on the ground a video shows. The girl stands up to leave, a senior student forcibly holds her hand to stop her.

However, when the boy tried to argue with an accused senior, he was slapped. What is more shocking is that the incident was witnessed by other girls too. Girls were seen laughing rather than protesting the sexual harassment happening to a minor girl.

For now, the accused involved in the incident are identified, and the disciplinary committee and anti-ragging cell have decided to expel them, as per the college principal. The principal said that the second-year students will be refrained from writing their annual papers.

The five students detained are charged with ragging under the strict Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and IT Act. The minors accused in the case will be presented before the juvenile justice board. Abhishek Nahak, 24, a final-year student is said to be the main accused. Nahak was out on bail in a sexual harassment case, he was also nominated to the campus committee of the college by the ruling Biju Janata Dal's student wing, of which he is a member.

Superintendent of Police, Berhampur, Saraban Vivek M has reiterated that this is not just a case of ragging but amounts to sexual harassment of the girl.

This incident is the latest one after the Hyderabad episode. A fresher was being physically abused at a Hyderabad college, prompting outrage on social media. Before that, a student was found dead in his hostel room at IIT-Kharagpur. Although the police had termed the IIT incident as a suicide case, the court had observed it could be a ragging case.
