Two men in Odisha have been accused of cannibalism after locals found them eating half-burnt human flesh from the body of a deceased woman at a funeral in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. The accused were arrested by the police on Tuesday.

The stomach-churning incident happened in a tribal village called Bandhasahi, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Badasahi police station. The accused have been identified as Sundar Mohan Singh, 58, and Narendra Singh, 25. Both men belonged to Dantuni village.
Odisha Men Arrested For Eating Human Flesh
- The deceased woman was identified as Madhusmita Singh, 25, a resident of Bandhasahi village, who passed away after succumbing to her illness at a hospital. She had allegedly fallen ill on Tuesday morning and was declared dead at the hospital.
- The police registered a case, after which the body was sent to the Baripada Hospital for postmortem. The body was then handed over to the deceased’s relatives.
- The family then took her body to the cremation ground and performed the last rites.
- However, two drunk men, Sundar Mohan Singh and Narendra Singh were present at the cremation ground. They chopped a part of the half-burnt body into three pieces. They took one piece and set the rest on fire.
- Laba Singh, Madhusmita’s uncle, told IANS that when he asked what they would do with the flesh, one of the accused, Sundar Mohan Singh, said, "You don’t know about witchcraft."
- Despite Laba Singh’s opposition, Sundar Mohan Singh started eating the half-burnt flesh. He had also given a piece of human flesh to Narendra Singh.
- The villagers caught the accused and thrashed them for the inhuman act. They had beat the duo, tied them up in rugs, and informed the local police.
- The police arrived at the spot and began a probe after taking the accused into their custody.
- Both accused admitted committing the crime. They claimed that they consumed the flesh in an inebriated condition.
- Senior police officer Sanjay Kumar Parida stated that the accused were arrested based on the complaints of the villagers. However, no trace of human flesh was found on them. Further investigation into the case is underway.
