Ipsa Priyadarshini case: The accused in the case, who is the husband of the deceased reportedly confessed on September 7 that he killed his wife as he failed to meet her increasing demands. However, the woman's parents, quashing the accused's claim, alleged that their daughter was killed over dowry demands.
The accused was identified as Biplab Pariyad. Reportedly, he used to work as an assistant manager of a central public sector bank. Being the prime suspect in the Ipsa Priyadarshini case, Pariyad surrendered before the local police station in Burdwan West district late at night on September 6.
The deceased, who was 35-year-old, was a resident of Dhenkanal in Odisha.
While surrendering before the Kanksha police station of Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC), Pariyad said that he killed his wife as "he has failed to meet the growing daily needs of his wife"
Pariyad added that he throttled Priyadarshini to death with a leash used for pets after an altercation on September 5 evening, as per reports.
Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate CP Neelkantham Sudheer Kumar stated that the police has taken the accused in custody and also started an investigation in the case. Senior police officials were reportedly stunned after seeing that the accused had not lost his cool during confession. They accompanied Pariyad to his house and found Priyadarshini lying dead on the bedroom floor of the house.
The deceased's father Uday Nand Behera has alleged that Pariyad used to physically torture Priyadarshini after marriage and has sought Rs 30 lakh to purchase a house.
Demanding justice for his daughter, Behera added that Pariyad allegedly killed his daughter in a fit of rage over the demands and called him "the ill-tempered son-in-law". However, Pariyad has denied allegations of demanding extra money from either his wife and his in-laws.
According to some local reports, Pariyad allegedly killed his wife "by mistake" as he was suffering from acute depression.
