In what can only be described as a jaw-dropping incident in Berhampur town, Odisha, a 52-year-old woman, presumed dead, defied all odds by opening her eyes just moments before the pyre was to be set ablaze in the southern district of Ganjam, leaving the community in awe and disbelief.
Despite the critical nature of her injuries, the woman was admitted to a hospital where authorities subsequently referred her to another medical facility. However, due to financial constraints, her husband made the difficult decision to take her home instead of pursuing further medical treatment, initiating a challenging chapter in her struggle for life.
Mistaken for Deceased
On February 12, the situation took a tragic turn when the woman appeared unresponsive, prompting her husband, Sibaram Palo, to assume the worst. Without consulting a doctor or obtaining a death certificate, he hastily arranged for her 'body' to be transported to the cremation ground in a hearse from the Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
As the funeral pyre at the Bijipur cremation ground was prepared for the somber ceremony, a miraculous turn of events unfolded. Minutes before the pyre was set ablaze, the presumed deceased woman opened her eyes, leaving those present in awe. Palo's neighbor, K. Chiranjibi, who accompanied the family to the cremation ground, described the moment as nothing short of a miracle.
Reactions to the Unprecedented Awakening
Witnessing the unexpected revival, shock and disbelief gripped the community. Chiranjibi shared, "The funeral pyre was almost ready when she opened her eyes suddenly. We were initially shocked, but when we started calling her, she responded. It is a miracle." The incident left the onlookers astonished at the unpredictable course of events.
Following the miraculous awakening, local authorities were notified, and the woman was swiftly returned to her home in the same hearse. After consulting with the local corporator, she was readmitted to the hospital, ensuring that her unexpected second chance at life did not go without proper medical attention.
