Nusrat Jahan and Nikhil Jain's 2019 marriage is "not legal, valid and tenable" in India, the Trinamool Congress leader has claimed in an explosive statement that addresses her relationship with the businessman.
The couple who tied the knot in Turkey three years ago did so as per the Turkish Marriage Regulation, Jahan says, adding that the validation of their interfaith marriage under India's Special Marriage Act did not happen. "As per the court of law, it is not a Marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship. Thus, the question of divorce does not arise."
Over recent months, a rift between Jahan and Jain has been speculated amid rumours of the TMC member's alleged relationship and pregnancy with actor Yash Dasgupta. "Affairs of my private life are not for the public," she had consequently quipped in the media.
In the statement issued June 9, Jahan reiterates that Jain and her "separation happened long back, but I did not speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself." More details on her statement here.
Jain in an interview with India Today reacted to Jahan's statement, saying, "I have filed for an annulment in Kolkata, we have been separated since November last year."

Without naming Jain in her statement, Jahan alleges mishandling of her finances and that her possessions have been "illegally held back."
"The one who claims to be “rich” and “been used by me” has been taking money from my Account by accessing my Bank Accounts illegally and by illegitimate means at odd-hours of the night, even post-separation. I have already taken this up with the concerned Banking Authority and a Police Complaint shall be filed shortly," she writes.

In an Instagram post Wednesday, Jahan wrote alongside a throwback photo of herself, "I won’t be remembered as a woman who can keep her mouth shut... and I’m ok with that."
"I have made my own identity by my sheer hard work; thus I would not allow anyone not related to me to share the limelight or a title or followers, based on my identity," the 31-year-old adds in her statement.
Seeming to confirm the pregnancy rumours, Jahan was seen flaunting her baby bump in pictures doing rounds on social media. The picture was also shared by HT Bangla.
