The Allahabad High Court has acquitted Nupur and Rajesh Talwar of the 2008 murder of their 14-year-old daughter Aarushi Talwar. The HC has rejected the 2013 judgment awarded by the special CBI court, which convicted the couple for the twin murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.
Talwars didn't kill their daughter-High Court
The CBI court had awarded life sentence to the couple in Ghaziabad on 26 November, 2013. Media reports say that the court noted that “suspicion can't take place of proof”.
Earlier, Rajesh and Nupur -- who are currently serving jail term in Ghaziabad's Dasna jail -- had filed a plea challenging CBI's judgment in Allahabad HC. The high court bench, including justices BK Narayana and AK Mishra, reserved its judgment on September 7 and fixed October 12 as the verdict date.
On May 16, 2008, Aarushi was found dead in her bedroom at her family’s house in Noida’s Jal Vayu Vihar. Noida police declared her murder as one done with utmost precision as her throat was slit. The police suspected their domestic help Hemraj in the murder case. But two days after Aarushi’s murder, even Hemraj was found dead on the Talwar’s terrace.
The case has been in public domain since the time of the murder. It gained much popularity after a movie and a book, both of which portrayed that the parents as unjustly convicted. The CBI court, however, found the Talwar couple guilty. It convicted them, awarding life sentence to both Nupur and Rajesh Talwar in 2013.
Don’t know who killed #Arushi & will probably never know but what I do know is the police made a total dogs breakfast of the investigation.
