Catholic Church Nun Accuses Bishop Of Rape

A nun has made serious allegations against Bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Diocese of Jalandhar. She has accused him or rape and unnatural sex.

Crisis time for Catholic Church

The Catholic Church in Kottayam is facing a time of crisis following the allegations made by the nun against the Bishop of the Church. The investigation team questioned her for about six hours and recorded her statements in 72 pages.

As the nun stands firm on her compliant, the police have to interrogate Bishop Franco Mulakkal, reported TOI.

The problem is huge as the nun claimed that she had already complained to the concerned authorities in the church

One of the people she approached also included Cardinal Mar Alencherry. She also presented the copies of the letter as a proof.

The investigation

The nun gave a record of the 13 instances when she was allegedly abused by the Bishop during 2014-2016. The police moved to the chief judicial magistrate court to record her statement. The statement will be recorded under Section 164 in the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The police will also be interrogating the other residents of Kuravilangad.

Cops also revealed that the Bishop had filed a complaint against the nun first, claiming that he was being threatened. He alleged that the nun's brother threatened to kill him if he came to Kerala. The nun lodged the compliant afterwards.

"I have submitted three evidences to substantiate my complaint," the bishop told TOI.

The nun supposedly broke down during the interrogation session but was well prepared for it and had documented all the evidences.

The interrogation team was led by K Subash, Vaikom DySP.

Who is the nun?

The nun belongs to the Missionaries of Jesus. This congregation comes under Jalandhar Diocese, which is under the Latin Catholic church. She hails from Angamaly. She had worked with the accused in the Jalandhar diocese.

Later, she came back to Nadukunnam near Kuravilangad. She set up a convent there, becoming its Mother superior. She was removed from this post in 2016.
