Author Taslima Nasreen Explains Anti-Surrogacy Tweets, Says Nothing To Do With Priyanka-Nick

Author Taslima Nasreen explained her tweets mentioning surrogacy for being exploitative of women and said that they were not directed at Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. The author criticised the practice of surrogacy saying it exploits and invades poor women’s bodies.

Author Taslima Nasreen has criticised the practice of surrogacy in her tweets calling it exploitative. She wrote in a tweet that she won’t accept surrogacy till rich women also became surrogates otherwise the practice is mere exploitation according to her.

Taslima Nasreen is a Bangladeshi writer, activist, physician and humanist, who writes about women's oppression and religious criticism. Some of her books are banned in Bangladesh. Nasreen is vocal about issues like feminism, human rights and class differences.

Taslima Nasreen Surrogacy Tweets Draw Flack:

The author wrote in a tweet, “I won’t accept surrogacy until rich women become surrogate moms. I won’t accept burqa until men wear it out of love. I won’t accept prostitution until male prostitutions (sic) are built and men wait for female customers. Otherwise, surrogacy, burqa, prostitution are just exploitation of women and the poor.”

However, she clarified that the tweets were not directed at Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas who recently became parents of a baby girl through surrogacy. The author said that she admires the couple and they have nothing to do with her “different opinions on surrogacy.”

Taslim Nasreen added to her tweet calling out the narcissism of rich people for asserting their traits onto their children, “Surrogacy is possible because there are poor women." She added that rich people want the existence of poverty in society for their own benefit. She suggested that if they really want to raise a child then they should adopt a homeless one. She called the practice of surrogacy to be a result of rich people's "selfish narcissistic ego".

In another tweet, she suggested people to opt for adoption instead of ‘exploiting/invading’ a poor woman’s body. She wrote, “Ppl are abusing me for my comments on surrogacy.They claim it's my stone-age idea to not rent wombs for making babies. I suggest to adopt homeless children&to not exploit/invade poor women's body. "She added it's a stone-age idea that people reproduce by any means for children to follow their traits.
