Medical report sheds light on Nodeep Kaur injuries: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday granted bail to labour rights activist Nodeep Kaur in an attempt to murder case. A medical report of the activist says that she sustained injuries caused by a “blunt object” under custody. She was arrested on January 12 amidst the farmers’ protests.
As per news reports, in her petition, the 25-year-old Haryana-based activist had accused Sonipat police of assault under custody. Supporting her previous allegations that she had been allegedly beaten up in police custody, the medical examination conducted at Sonipat civil hospital pointed out that there are several injuries on her thigh and buttocks. “Purplish bruises of around 10x7 cm present over the left thigh. Lateral aspect, bruises of around 5x6 cm over the right buttock,” revealed the report, prepared on January 25 following directions of Sonipat duty magistrate. Kaur was examined after she had told the doctor about the physical assault on her on January 12 at Singhu border.

Later, her sister, Rajveer Kaur, also went on to alleged that Kaur “has been beaten up in the police station by male staff and has even been sexually assaulted. There are injuries in her private parts. There should be strict action.”
The HC had directed Sonipat police to produce her medical report after taking suo motu cognizance of the issue related to her alleged harassment in custody.
After spending forty-five days in jail, Kaur was released from Karnal Jail on February 26 evening. She received a grand welcome from her family members and supporters post her release.
