In the final week of his presidency, 74-year-old Trump was charged with "incitement of insurrection" over the attack at the Capitol Hill on January 6. He allegedly encouraged his supporters to march on the Capitol Hill and "fight".
The impeachment took place after US Vice President Mike Pence opposed to the use of the 25th Amendment to remove the outgoing president. "I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our nation or consistent with our Constitution," he wrote in a letter to Pelosi.

They were domestic terrorists and justice must prevail," said Pelosi. She added that the rioters did not appear our of vaccum and were sent by the President, directed ‘to fight like hell.’ Read more about it here.
On January 6, a mob of hundreds of pro-Trump supporters barged into the Capitol Hill, smashing windows and clashing with the police, attempting to overturn Trump's election defeat at the hands of Joe Biden. Following the incident, several politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex called for Trump's impeachment. She added that those responsible for their attempts to subvert "our nation’s elections and shred our Constitution apart" needed to be held accountable.
