No female Cabinet members in Telangana

Six months after Telangana formally became a separate state, Chief Minister of the state K Chandrasekhara Rao, the cabinet was expanded to 12 ministers in Telangana. The new ministers include T Nageswar Rao, T Srinivas Yadav (both from the ruling party TDP), J Krishna Rao, Dr Lakshma Reddy, Indrakaran Reddy and Chandulal. However, there are no women in the Cabinet.

Even though the Chief Minister has tried to accommodate representatives from all districts, he seems to have failed in including a representative for half the state’s population. It is however believed, that Rao will instate two legislators each from Mahabubnagar and Khammam (which are currently the only unrepresented districts) and will be give preference to SC, ST and OBCs, including women legislators.

TRS MLA of Warangal Konda Surekha who was expecting to be chosen for the cabinet was dissatisfied with the current selection. But according to a report by Times of India, Ms. Surekha was apparently assured by the Chief Minister that her husband Konda Muralidhar Rao would be given the TRS ticket in the elections to Legislative Council from MLAs quota in February.

Apart from women there are other leaders who have been disappointed by the cabinet selection. A senior TRS leader from Warangal said, “A large number of supporters thronged the residence of MLA Vinay Bhaskar in Warangal as rumours spread that he would be inducted in the Cabinet. But like others, he was shocked when he was made parliamentary secretary:” as reported by Deccan Chronicle.

Dharmapuri SC MLA Koppula Eshwar, who believes that he stood by the party through thick and thin, said, “My future is in the hands of KCR Garu. I am sure that he will decide about it. I have full confidence in him.”
