Nita Ambani, Chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation addressed the Reliance Industries’ Annual General Meeting for the first time ever. Ambani emphasised the family’s commitment to the battle against COVID-19. She said the Jio digital distribution and supply chain would be used to distribute the vaccine when it’s created.
The 56-year-old talked about Reliance Foundation’s work over the past few months. Ambani mentioned Anna Seva and setting up of a COVID-19-speciality hospital in Mumbai. She also listed out the foundation’s future plans and spoke about how it would also help in utilising Jio’s digital infrastructure to make COVID-19 testing accessible across India. “The war against coronavirus is far from over. Reliance Foundation is gearing up to partner with the government and local municipalities for rapid mega-scale Covid testing across India with the help of Jio’s digital infrastructure,” she said.
Nita Ambani recently became the only Indian to feature in Town & Country magazine's top global philanthropists of 2020. The list also included Oprah Winfrey and Tim Cook for the foundation’s work during the pandemic. There was also an indication of Isha Ambani’s growing role at the foundation. Nita stated that her daughter would lead Reliance Foundation into its next decade and make it more impactful.

"I can assure you as soon as a Coronavirus vaccine becomes available, we will volunteer by using the same digital distribution and supply chain to ensure that the vaccine reaches every nook and corner of our country," she said at the Reliance Annual General Meeting. The statement comes in the backdrop of the beginning of human clinical trials for the COVID-19 vaccine in India.
Under the Mission Anna Seva, the project provided over five crore meals to marginalised communities. It included daily-wage earners and frontline workers across the nation. Reliance Foundation reportedly produces one lakh N95 facemasks and personal protective equipment (PPE) daily for health-workers.
