Nikki Haley: Nikki Haley and other Republican politicians have demanded the US' Boycott of China's Winter Olympics 2022. They have accused China of orchestrating 'horrific' human rights abuses.
"We cannot sit back and watch China use the Olympics to cover up its horrific human rights abuses," said Nikki Haley.
Haley has also launched a campaign to make President Joe Biden accept their demand. Senator Rick Scott even wrote a letter to the President in which he he demanded for a discussion on the "human rights atrocities" being meted out in China. He also demanded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to choose another place for conducting the Winter Olympics.
Haley said that "we need to stand up to China, and we need to do it now. That's why I’m asking you to join me and sign our petition calling on President Biden to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in China".
The Republican party representatives have been very tough on their demands, and are determined to not let Beijing "whitewash it's crimes" by giving them a global platform for the Olympics.
No decision on boycotting the Winter Olympics has been made so far
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has told reporters that no decision has been made by the White House in this regard. "Of course, we would look for guidance from the US Olympic Committee," she said.
Other than the Republicans, many human rights organisations have also demanded for the boycott.
The Winter Olympics are scheduled to be held between February 4 to 20, 2022 in China.
