Nikita Jacob Case: Activist's Protection From Arrest Extended In Toolkit Case

Nikita Jacob case: A Delhi Court Tuesday extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Mumbai-based activist and lawyer Nikita Jacob in the farmers protest 'toolkit case.' Jacob has been named in the Delhi Police's probe of the violence that broke out in the capital on January 26.

The court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana, adjourned hearing in the anticipatory bail pleas of Jacob and co-accused Shantanu Muluk, and simultaneously extended their period of protection from arrest till the next hearing date on March 15. Senior advocate Rebecca John is representing Jacob in court.

Jacob and Muluk are both facing non-bailable arrest warrants by the Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in the editing and circulation of the 'toolkit' document shared by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg in February. Bengaluru activist Disha Ravi was arrested for ten days in the same 'conspiracy' case last month, later released on bail with two bonds of Rs 1,00,000.

The Patiala House Court on March 2 had granted one week’s time to the Delhi Police for a response on Jacob’s plea seeking anticipatory bail. John, on Jacob's behalf, appealed to the court to adjourn the case in light of the police's elaborate reply provided today.

Jacob had earlier confessed to attending a Zoom meeting with Muluk and Ravi Poetic, and Poetic Justice Foundation founder Mo Dhaliwal, who is a known Khalistani advocate. Jacob claimed the 'toolkit' in question was prepared by Extinction Rebellion (XR) India volunteers to platform the farmers' protest on a global scale.
