Ahead of her departure to Turkey, Zareen was working on her fitness and the game. โI am delighted that I am able to represent the country and do what I love the most. The last time I played a tournament was in January 2020 and returning to the ring after more than a year will be challenging. I am working hard and will give my best to win gold for the country,โ she said before the tournament.

Zareen, who fights in the same weight category as Indian boxing legend six-time world champion Mary Kom, was earlier defeated by her in the final of the national trials, thus failing to earn a spot for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. โMy only focus since then has been to work even harder and come back strong. Thatโs something that I am focusing on. I am looking forward to the future. I believe everything happens for a good reason,โ she had told the Olympic Channel in an interview from Hyderabad.
Kom defeated Nikhat Zareen 9-1 to represent India at the Olympic qualifiers in China, later shifted to Jordan.
