A 21-year-old student Muna Pandey from Nepal was shot dead during a robbery at her apartment on August 24 in Houston, Texas. The accused, Bobby Singh Shah, has been arrested and charged with capital murder. An online crowdfunding page has been established to raise money for Pandey's mother, Anita, to travel from Nepal to Houston and cover the funeral costs.
Woman Shot Dead In Robbery
The staff at Muna Pandey's apartment complex, located at 6363 West Airport Boulevard, called the 911 helpline after receiving an anonymous tip about a dead body inside her flat. The authorities found her with multiple gunshot wounds around 5:35 p.m. and paramedics declared her dead at the scene.
The Harris Country District Attorney's Office said in a statement that Bobby Singh Shah was caught on surveillance camera, leaving Pandey's apartment, two days before her body was found. The police located him from a traffic stop and arrested him for charges of capital murder on August 28.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to support Pandey's mother Anita's travel to the USA and the funeral expenses. Drona Gautam, a member of the 'Nepalese Association of Houston' told the New York Post that Anita had been trying to reach her daughter for days before she was found dead.
“What mom said is her phone was always online. After Saturday night, the phone was offline,” Gautam said.“She [Pandey] had like three gunshots and she was laying down on the bed, with head down. Hopefully, the investigation will come up with some idea of how this happened.”
