India’s favourite singing reality show, Indian Idol, is back with its 12th season. The season will be judged by singers Neha Kakkar and Vishal Dadlani. One of the contestants from Jaipur, Shahzad Ali, narrated his life story and the difficulties he had to face to stand on the stage of Indian Idol. His story moved Kakkar who donated an amount of 1 lakh as financial aid.
In a new promo released by SONY TV, Ali can be seen singing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s classic Kinna Sohna Tenu. Ali, who is an employee at a small cloth shop in Jaipur, told the judges that he lost his mother when he was a child. He has been brought up by his nani (grandmother). It was Ali’s dream to sing on Indian Idol’s platform. And to fulfil this, his nani took a loan of 5000 rupees from the bank so that he could go to Mumbai and practice his singing. The life story touched the hearts of the judges and each of them offered to help Ali and his family. While Neha Kakkar donated 1 lakh rupees to Ali’s nani, Dadlani promised to get Ali a good teacher under whom he can practise his singing.

Kakkar took on the judge’s seat in the new season after getting married to her beloved and singer Rohanpreet Singh in October. The wedding and its ceremonies happened in different cities, Mumbai, Delhi and Chandigarh, and over several days. The roka ceremony was organised exactly a month before the release of the duo's first singles, Nehu Ka Vyah. Singh and Kakkar met for the first time on the sets of the song. "I didn’t even realise what she wrote for that song would come true one day. It literally changed my life for the best,” Singh said in an interview.
