After taking cognisance of the controversial viral video in which Jawed Habib was seen spitting in a woman's hair, the National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned the celebrity hairstylist.
The Commission has asked Habib to appear before the panel on January 11 to explain his actions. In the summon notice, the NCW ordered Uttar Pradesh to probe the authenticity of the viral video. Habib was heard saying, " If there is a scarcity of water, use saliva" in the video. The video was reportedly shot at a workshop in Muzzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The woman in the video has filed a complaint against Habib with the police.

In the notice, the Commission said that it has taken serious note of the incident. It stated, "Therefore, you are directed to appear before the Commission in-person on 11.01.2022 at 12.30PM for deposition of your statement."

The video has gone viral on the internet with netizens calling out the hairstylist for being disrespectful and unhygienic towards the woman. The complainant is named Pooja Gupta who runs a parlor in Baraut town of Uttar Pradesh. While speaking to the media, she said that she felt humiliated at the stage when Habib spat in her hair. The police have filed an FIR against Habib under section of assault of Indian Penal Code and the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.
After much criticism, Jawed Habib came out with an apology. In a video message, he said, "Some words spoken by me have hurt people. I want to say one thing that these are professional workshops and are long shows and when they are long, we have to make them humorous. What can I say? If you are truly hurt, I apologise from my heart. Please forgive me. Sorry."
Habib owns about 900 salons across the country in addition to the 65 hair academies. He has been known as a celebrity hairstylist for a long time and is also the Miss India pageant hair stylist. He joined Bharatiya Janta Party in 2019.
