Different brands try to adapt unique and catchy advertising and promotion techniques. India is a country where we often see misogynist comments and jokes being cracked about women's attire and capabilities. In order to attract the large masses and patriarchal minds of society, brands end up developing insensitive marketing techniques that are just bad jokes in the face of a progressed society. A similar tweet from Indian airline SpiceJet also created controversy for labelling its female crew as 'red-hot' and received criticism from netizens and NCW.

NCW On SpiceJet Red-Hot Girls Tweet

National Commission For Women had asked SpiceJet authorities to remove a controversial tweet made on December 18. In a letter written by NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma to SpiceJet's director, the head has reportedly asked them to take down the tweet made on December 18, 2022. The tweet included a picture of veteran actor Dharmendra along with three female flight crew of SpiceJet with the caption, "Garam-Dharam with our red-hot girls." The tweet received flak on Twitter for allegedly being misogynist.

The airline's uniform is red in colour and it uses the tagline 'Red.Hot.Spicy'. The tweet was an attempt to use it as wordplay but what was problematic is the inclusion of only the female crew members. In many airline advertisements and posters, only female crew members can be seen in their red uniforms along with the tagline which indicates the problematic mindset behind the marketing ideas.

The airline has not yet released an official response to the letter, neither have they taken down the tweet in question.

Actor Dharmendra replied to the tweet and wrote, "Thanks  . lovely journey with these sweet babies. pata hi nehin chala kab udey kab pahunch gaye …..". A user reacted to the tweet and wrote, "What is Garam in Dharam and What is Hot in girls?
Were they suffering from fever?". SpiceJet authorities have not yet released any official statement regarding the tweet or the letter from NCW. The tweet still remains on their official Twitter account.
