Child Rights Protection Commission Asks J&K Police To Book Twitter India Officials For Showing Little Girl With Gun

NCPCR complaint against Twitter: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) requested the Jammu & Kashmir police to lodge an FIR against the officials of Twitter India for showing a post with a girl child holding a gun in her hand.

NCPCR in its request, mentioned Twitter India Managing Director Manish Maheshwari and Shagufta Kamran, Policy Manager. The tweet with the picture in question had a girl firing a weapon in the air and she was accompanied by 4-5 adult men. The tweet was first put reportedly put out by a Twitter handle named AGH History. Another video was mentioned by NCPCR which allegedly showed the men encouraging a child to fire the bullets in the air.

The commission in its complaint alleged that the video showed unlawful terror activity and accused Twitter India of supporting and promoting such acts. The complaint made accusations that Twitter India was facilitating recruitment of children in for terrorist activities in the Jammu and Kashmir region. According to the commission, the men seen in the video and photo belong to a terror group.

Twitter is accused of supporting terrorist organisations such as Ansar Ghazwat-Ul-Hind in recruiting children in their endeavours.

The commission has urged the Jammu and Kashmir police to take cognisance of the matter and book the officials of the micro-blogging site under sections 13 (1)0) of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005. They have also asked the police to investigate the matter and find out about the source of the video.

If the origin falls under the jurisdiction of J&K police, then the commission has asked the police to take action in terms of carrying out further investigation and lodging an FIR. The commission has asked to be informed if the origin of the video doesn't fall under the Jammu and Kashmir police so that they can take up the matter with the concerned police. The Jammu and Kashmir Police has been asked to respond within seven days.
