First, 45 girls from North East India are participating in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp of 2024. Aged between 13 and 15 years old, these girls are going to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the North East while depicting the reach of the NCC across the nation.
NCC Director-General Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh said that Republic Day Camp aims at exposing the cadets to the nation's rich culture, strengthening their values, promoting integration, and enhancing unity in diversity through a cultural exchange program.
The Highest Participation Of Women in the Camp
Out of 2,274 cadets participating in the camp, 907 are girls. This, as per Singh, is the highest participation of women.
He further added, "In this year's Republic Day parade, NCC Girls Cadets will participate. Their training and drill standards are excellent. For the first time, there will be a women's contingent participating in the parade. Earlier, there used to be a mixed contingent."
The NCC has seen a boost of 35 percent in the participation of female cadets.
Cadets are arriving from all over the country, including 122 from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and 177 from the North East. Furthermore, cadets and officers from 25 countries-Argentina, Botswana, Bhutan, Brazil, Czech Republic, Fiji, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Tajikistan, UK, Venezuela, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Nigeria, Mauritius, and Mozambique—are attending the camp as part of the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP).The camp will last a month.
The camp will host famous dignitories like the Vice President, Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the three Service Chiefs.
Events at the camp
Various events will be conducted at the camp, like the 39 Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat camps, the Megacyclothon, the Nari Vandhan Run, exceptional performance in sporting events, mountaineering expeditions, and participation in G20 events.
Gurbirpal Singh further added, "The focus is on personality development, inculcating leadership traits, and improving the soft skills of cadets to equip them for their future requirements. The idea is to transform them into better citizens and inculcate the spirit of the nation first."
