Story so far:
The agency has been probing drug cases related to the death of 34-year-old actor Sushant Singh Rajput. A criminal case was registered against Chakraborty in August last year based on chats provided to the agency by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which was probing a complaint of money-laundering against Chakraborty and others based on a complaint by Rajput’s father. ED wrote a letter to the agency after extracting a drugs-related WhatsApp chat between Chakraborty, her brother Showik, Samuel Miranda, Jaya Saha, and Gaurav Arya.
On September 8, Chakraborty and her brother were arrested in the case linked to her ex-boyfriend and the NCB had labelled the actor as an "active member of drug syndicate". She was released on a bail on October 7. Later, a special NDPS court granted bail to her brother Showik on December 2, after three months.
According to the NCB, the drug-probe had exposed a new angle in connection with Rajput’s alleged suicide. The investigation revealed names of A-list celebrities and they have been asked to “join the probe”. However many of them were cleared of all accusations after investigations.
Rajput died by suicide at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020.
