Aamir Khan has, time and again, proved through his choice of movies and characters that he is the torchbearer of women's empowerment. After showcasing some brilliant work in Dangal, he is back with an ad that challenges social mores and seeks change.
The ad is a Star Plus initiative with the theme, "Nayi Soch". It shows Aamir Khan bubbling over with pride while sharing his teenage daughters' intelligence of harnessing the power of internet to expand his business. The ad starts with a customer visiting the actor's sweets shop. Impressed seeing the success of the shop, he compliments him. Aamir gives the credit of his success to his children. The customer, mistaking both his children to be boys, congratulates Aamir for having such diligent sons. Aamir corrects him by saying,"Bete Nahi Ji, Betiyaan". The ad concludes with the camera revealing the name of the shop which says, "Gurdeep Singh and Daughters".

The ad is sure to strike a chord with the audience. The social message of valuing daughters and their qualities has been very well documented in the ad. It is good to see Bollywood actors trying to use their stardom to fight against social issues.
In the recent past, Deepika Padukone's "My choice" propagated the message of women's liberation by knocking down patriarchal mindsets. Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor were also seen busting gender stereotypes through their movie 'Ki and Ka'. And who doesn't remember Kangna Ranuat's fiery answers on Koffee With Karan? She intimidated Karan with her quirky, yet honest views.
It is good to see winds of change blowing in Bollywood. We are desperately waiting for the time when this changes into a storm demolishing sexism altogether.
Poorvi, an alumna of Asian College Of Journalism, watched the ad and says,
"I loved the ad and Aamir's constant drive of promoting women in his work is what is setting him apart from other actors. Today when actors are hell bent on distancing themselves from feminism, this looks like Aamir is silently promoting it."
