Actor Nayanthara's Surrogacy Controversy: Possibility Of Surrogacy Rules Violation

Recently, Tamil actor Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan welcomed twin boys via surrogacy. But soon it came the under the scanner of the Tamil Nadu health department. The possible violation of surrogacy rules are speculated. Also, there is speculation that couple used a surrogate mother.

Reporters questioned state health ministry about possible violation.  In response, they suggested they would examine the matter." Although in a report, State health minister MA Subramanian said, "according to norms, those aged 21 years and under the age of 36 can donate oocytes (ova or eggs). We presume this could have been done that way... director of health services will be asked to examine if it was done according to norms."

Actor Nayanthara's Surrogacy Controversy

Doctors also made similar claim that Nayanthara and her spouse might have conceived the babies before the law was amended.

Surrogacy law were amended in January to ensure it is not commercially exploited. A controversy erupted in June this year revolving around a minor being forced to donate oocytes, after which the state government brought in more stringent guidelines.

Surrogacy became a talking point since actor Shah Rukh Khan announced the birth of his youngest, AbRam. The controversy brewed when the third child of the actor and his spouse Gauri Khan was born in May 2013 through surrogacy. The controversy was more of rich people using surrogacy for all wrong reasons.

Also, In March 2017, filmmaker Karan Johar announced his fatherhood after becoming a parent to twins - a boy and a girl - through surrogacy.

The new parents revealed the news of twin boys through Shivan's Instagram handle. The director shared pictures and captioned it, “Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa. We are blessed with Twin Baby Boys. All Our prayers and our ancestors’ blessings combined with all the good manifestations made have come together in the form of 2 blessed babies for us Need all your blessings for our Uyir & Ulagam. Life looks brighter & more beautiful, God is double great.”
