Amaravati MP Navneet Kaur Rana has alleged that Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena has threatened her in the Lok Sabha premises and also informed Speaker Om Birla that she received acid-attack threats on phone calls and Shiv Sena letterheads.
Navneet Kaur Rana, who is an independent MP from Amravati, has said that Sawant has allegedly warned her of being jailed for talking in the House against the Maharashtra government. Sawant who is a member from Sindhudurg has denied the allegation and said that he would stand with the women member if anybody has threatened of physical harm. "I have never threatened anyone in my life…Doing that to a woman is out of the question," Sawant responded to her allegation. Further, he added, "I condemn anyone who indulges in such acts (acid attack). If anyone even tries it, I will be standing with Navneet Rana."
MP Rana in a letter has said, "Today, the way Shiv Sena parliamentarian Arvind Sawant has threatened me, it is an insult not just to me but to all the country's women. Hence I seek the strictest of police action against Arvind Sawant."
"I have complained before, too, to the police and Om Birla ji about all the unwanted letters that I got in the name of Shiv Sena. I got calls saying 'The beautiful face that you are proud of, we will put acid so that you will not be able to go anywhere...if you talk about Uddhav Thackeray ji'," Rana said.
Rana has also said to ANI that Bharat Margani, the Rajamundhry MP, had witnessed the incident unfolded in the Lok Sabha premises.
The Amravati MP had raised concerns about Sachin Vaze, the suspended Maharashtra cop and said that Uddhav Thackeray's government should step down in the wake of corruption allegations against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
Navneet Kaur Rana who is a Telugu film actor is married to Ravi Rana. Her husband is an independent MLA from the Badnera constituency in Amravati city.
