A woman claiming to be Navjot Singh Sidhu's sister from the United States has accused the Congress politician of abandoning their mother in her old age. Speaking to the press Friday, one Suman Toor made a tearful statement saying her mother died as a poor woman in 1989 at the railway station in Delhi after Sidhu allegedly deserted her in the years following his father's death.
He is a "cruel" man, Toor told the media in Chandigarh where she presently is. "We have seen very tough times. My mother was in the hospital for four months," she said, claiming she had documents as evidence of what she was saying.
As shown in an ANI video, Toor holds up a black and white family photo pointing out her siblings as alleged proof.
Toor's allegations come ahead of the crucial Punjab elections heating up for battle between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Polling in the state begins next month.

Following Toor's media statement, Sidhu's wife and fellow politician Navjot Kaur said she didn't know the woman. "
As per Toor, Sidhu cut ties with the family for property and money, claiming her father left behind many assets. She has refuted claims that Sidhu's father Sardar Bhagwant Singh separated from their mother. "Whatever Navjot Singh Sidhu is claiming about my parents is false," India Today quoted Toor saying.

Toor further said Sidhu allegedly seized their father's property and drove their elder sister and mother out of the house. She came to know of what allegedly transpired much later after the elder sister died.
She added she went to Sidhu's residence in Punjab on January 20 but the minister allegedly refused to meet her.
Sidhu is presently poised as one of two potentials that Congress will name as a Chief Minister candidate for the elections; the other is current CM Charanjit Singh Channi who succeeded Captain Amarinder Singh in the role after the latter resigned last year.
