Prime Minister Narendra Modi while in conversation with Dr Navjot Simi, a dentist-turned-police said that she will inspire the "daughters" of the new generation by joining the police force.
The doctor-turned-Indian Police Service (IPS) officer got an opportunity to narrate her story to PM Modi last week. It was during the Prime Minister's interactions with IPS probationers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
PM Modi asked Dr Navjot Simi that why did she decide to become a cop. He asked in Hindi that "Desh ke dushmano ke daant khatte karne ka rasta kyu chuna?"
This made Dr Simi laughed and she replied: "I have been working in civil services for a long time... A doctor's work and a police officer must take away the pain of people, so I thought this is a bigger platform to work in service of others."
A video of the episode was shared on Instagram by Simi. The doctor in her caption wrote that she was grateful for the opportunity to interact with the PM of India and that his directions are invaluable to the entire police force.
Dr. Simi on getting asked about her experience in the police training by PM Modi said that she had an opportunity to connect and interact with a batch of women constables who inspired her.
Dr Navjot Simi scored 735th rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam of 2018. She belongs to Gurdaspur, Punjab and had a career as a dentist after pursuing a BDS degree from Baba Jaswant Singh Dental Hospital and Research Institute, Ludhiana.
The 33-year-old IPS officer is reportedly married to IAS officer Tushar Singla. She is currently posted in Bihar as the Deputy Superintendent of Police.
