In Navi Mumbai's Digha locality, authorities have taken legal action against a man and two of his relatives following an alleged assault on his wife. The complaint, filed by a 23-year-old woman, prompted the Rabale MIDC police to register the case.
The complaint states that Pradeep Arkade (30), the woman's husband, disagreed with her choice to wear fashionable bangles, sparking a heated argument. This dispute reportedly escalated into physical violence against the woman.
Woman Beaten Up By Husband, In-Laws For Wearing Fashionable Bangles
On November 13, amidst a disagreement, the woman's 50-year-old mother-in-law reportedly grabbed her by the hair and repeatedly slapped her. Subsequently, her husband used a belt to assault her, and another female relative joined in, pushing her to the ground and continuing the physical attack.
Following the incident, the woman sought refuge at her parents' residence in Pune and filed a complaint there. The case was later transferred to Navi Mumbai for further investigation.
Authorities registered a case against them under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 34 (common intention), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation), as confirmed by the police.
The distressing reality of Indian women enduring domestic violence remains an ongoing and tragic concern. Earlier, a tragic incident unfolded in the Undri area of Pune, where a 27-year-old woman faced fatal domestic violence at the hands of her husband. The conflict arose when Shital Pandagle forgot to pack her husband's lunch as he was leaving for work at 8am This minor oversight led to a heated argument, escalating to the point where her husband, Somnath Mahadev Pandagle (30), violently attacked her with a wooden stick, causing severe injuries to her head and legs.
The intensity of the assault resulted in the victim suffering epilepsy seizures. Despite efforts by her family to rush her to Sassoon Hospital, she was declared dead upon arrival. The medical examination revealed multiple wounds on her body, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
Following questioning, Somnath confessed to the assault, leading to his arrest by the police. He now faces charges under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Kondhwa police station.
It's heartbreaking to think that these petty things and something as simple as choosing a bangle could lead to such a painful and violent situation for a woman. Domestic violence is never acceptable, no matter the reason behind it. This incident makes us reflect on how fragile a person's ego can be and how controlling a family dynamic might become. It's upsetting to imagine that a woman's freedom to pick her clothes or accessories could cause such conflict and harm within her own home.
It's a distressing example of how deeply rooted control and dominance can cause immense suffering, and it's high time we address and change these harmful dynamics.
