March 4 is observed as National Safety Day in India. The goal is to raise awareness and commitment to working safely. Every year on March 4th, National Safety Day is commemorated to honour the founding ideals of the National Safety Council.

Here's everything you should know about the not-for-profit body National Safety Council
- National Safety Council (NSC) is an apex not-for-profit body that was set up by the Ministry of Labour, Government of India (GOI) on 4th March 1966. The objective of setting up the body was to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) at the national level.
- The National Safety Council works to eliminate needless deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the road. It achieves all this through leadership, research, teaching, and advocacy.
- It organises specialised training programmes/courses, conferences, seminars & workshops to promote its cause.
- National Safety Day/Week, Fire Service Week, World Environment Day and Road Safety Week are some of the campaigns it has organised successfully.
- It has also organised various national and international conferences e.g. XIII World Congress (1993) and APOSHO Conferences (1995 and 2016) and implemented many prestigious projects.
- The National Safety Council of India (NSC) announces the theme of National Safety Day each year.
- It also encourages organisations to lead the safety campaign to educate people about industrial safety.
- “Nurture young minds – Develop safety culture” is the theme for National Safety Day 2022 announced by the National Safety Council of India.
- “Sadak Suraksha (Road Safety)” was the theme for National Safety Day 2021.
- The first-ever National Safety Day was celebrated in 1972. The day is an opportunity for various organizations to find dangers in workplaces, in societies, in public places that are common to citizens and take concrete steps to reduce them.
