Narendra Modi Praises Kamala Harris: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Vice-President of the United States Kamala Harris on September 14. Modi is currently on his seventh visit to the US, where he will be attending the Quad Summit and will be holding bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden.
The duo talked on multiple subjects like cementing India-USA friendship, global issues like threats to democracy, Indo-Pacific issues, Afghanistan and terrorism. During his five-day US visit, Modi will also address the United Nations General Assembly.
In a tweet fleet on Friday, Narendra Modi applauded Kamala Harris's vice presidency as a historic occasion, while adding that he is confident that India-USA ties will grow further under the leadership of President Biden and her.
Vice-President Kamala Harris created history in 2020, when she became the first woman, as well as the first person of colour to be elected as the vice-president of the United States. She had previously served as District Attorney of San Francisco, California Attorney General and United States Senator. She was, infact, only the second black woman to be elected to the US Senate.
This is the first time PM Modi met VP Harris in-person. "We have had the opportunity to speak after you assumed the Vice Presidency. One of our interactions happened when India was battling a very tough wave of COVID-19 infections. I recall your kind words of solidarity that time," PM Modi tweeted after the meeting.
