The Oscar nominations are finally happening. The final nominations list, featuring all the competitors for the prestigious Golden Trophy, was announced on Tuesday evening.
The foot-tapping number Naatu Naatu from RRR has been nominated at the 95th Oscar Awards under the "Best Original Song" category. The song Naatu Naatu was composed by M.M. Keeravani, with lyrics by Chandrabose.
Naatu Naatu won the Golden Globe Award in the same category earlier this month. Naatu Naatu will compete against four other nominated songs: Applause from Tell It Like A Woman, Lady Gaga's Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick, Rihanna's Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and This Is A Life from Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Celebrating SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR’s nomination at the Oscars, the team expressed their delight on their social media handles. RRR makers wrote, "We created history!! Proud and privileged to share that Naatu Naatu has been nominated for best original song at the 95th Academy Awards."
The film RRR starred actors Ram Charan and NTR Jr. in the lead and was directed by S.S. Rajamouli.
Indian celebrities, including the composer of the iconic song, M.M. n Keeravani, RRR actor Ram Charan’s spouse, Upasana Konidela, actors Sai Dharam Tej, Chiranjeevi, and Gopichand Malineni, music director Thaman, director H. Vinoth, singer Mano, producer Shobu Yarlagadda, and numerous fans, took to social media to applaud the song's nomination at the Oscars.
The makers of RRR had submitted the film under various categories, including "best picture," "best director," and "best actor." However, they failed to make the cut for the list.
Apart from Naatu Naatu, India's official entry for Oscar nominations were in the following categories: best documentary feature - Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes and best documentary short film - The Elephant Whisperers, and the "Chello Show" (Last Picture Show), best international feature film.
"All that Breathes" has been nominated for best documentary feature film and "The Elephant Whisperer" for the best documentary short film. However, "Chhello Show" didn’t secure a spot in the best international film category.
Guneet Monga took to her Twitter handle to celebrate the nomination of The Elephant Whispers, she wrote, "The Elephant Whisperers is nominated at the Oscars! This film is an ode to devotion and love..an ode to unconditional selfless love for the beautiful baby ellie Raghu who felt all the emotions like us humans but only two could hear his whispers - Bomman and Bellie." She further wrote, "My dear team @sikhyaent - this nomination is a big reward in itself, let's take the final leap with the same faith! *This journey has also been* about the representation and making our country proud. So here's to India, and here's to all of us.". Baahubali producer Shobu Yalagadda also congratulated "The Elephant Whisperer" team for being nominated at the Oscars, he wrote, "Congratulations to the entire team of #ElephantWhisperers!"
The nominations for the Oscars were announced by actors Riz Ahmed and Alison Williams. The award function will be held in Los Angeles on March 13, 2023. Chat show host Jimmy Kimmel will host the prestigious award function for the third time.
