E-commerce giant Myntra has announced that it will change its logo after a complaint was lodged with the Mumbai Cyber police alleging it to be "insulting" and "offensive" towards women. Myntra logo change was announced after a complaint was lodged by Naaz Patel of NGO Avesta Foundation in December last year, according to a report by India Today.
DCP Cyber Crime Mumbai, Rashmi Karandikar told Jagran English that the logo was found to be "offensive" in nature "for women". After the company started receiving backlash from people, the Flipkart-owned fashion, beauty and wellness company has agreed to change the official logo across all places. Additionally, the same change will be applied through their promotional and packaging material as well. Printing orders for packaging material will now have the new logo which has reportedly been issued by the company already. Myntra is yet to unveil the revised logo.
DCP Karandikar said that the Mumbai police has sent an email to the company's head following the complaint which demands removal of the logo. Patel has also asked for appropriate action against the firm. "The officials said they will change the logo in a month's time," said Karandikar
Reportedly, before registering the complaint formally, Patel went online and brought up the issue on multiple platforms on social media.
Last year, during the pandemic traffic and end-of-season sell, Myntra had said to Economic Times that it saw an 86 percent surge in the number of customers from tier 2 and 3 cities -- the highest so far for any retail company.
Myntra logo found 'offensive' by woman who made the complaint
According to some reports, the ecommerce giant is taking the issue seriously and will change its logo on all packaging. Traditionally any logo change can severely impact branding as its an essential part of the overall brand presence. The company has reportedly issued printing orders for packaging material with their new logo.
