'Slept As Man, Woke Up Woman': 20 YO Deceived Into Sex Surgery

A man in Uttar Pradesh claimed that a sex-change surgery was performed on him without his consent. 20-year-old Mujahid from Muzaffarnagar said that his friend Omprakash sedated him and took him to a hospital where the surgery was performed. On June 3, Omprakash allegedly convinced doctors at Begrajpur Medical College in Mansoorpur and the deceitful surgery was performed. However, the date of the surgery doesn't match the doctors' claims who denied performing any nonconsensual surgery. 

As per the reports, Omprakash had been molesting and harassing Mujahid for the past two years. “He brought me here, and the next morning I had an operation. When I regained consciousness, I was told that I had been changed from a boy to a girl," Mujahid said. He further added, “When I woke up, Omprakash told me that I am a woman now and that he would take me to Lucknow to marry me."

Omprakash allegedly threatened to kill Mujahid's father if he refused to marry him. He was arrested on June 16 based on Mujahid's father's complaint.

Mujahid tells his story of sexual abuse and deception 

Mujahid, a 20-year-old student of class 12, hails from Sanjak village of UP. He said to News 18 that he never imagined that a person whom he trusted the most would deceive him. Mujahid and his family said that Omkar had been harassing Mujahid for two years and turned a happy-go-lucky man prey to harassment and deception. 

Mujahid met Omprakash two years ago in a factory. Mujahid worked as a daily wage labourer while Omprakash was in charge. Mujahid said, "Omprakash ji was in-charge there. Quite often he used to help me out but I never thought that it was all a part of his plan.”  

After a few months of working in the factory, Mujahid resigned and started working in a beauty parlour. His father is a farmer and to assist him in taking care of the finances, Mujahid started working. In the interview, Mujahid said, "Unlike the local factory where I used to get Rs 150 a day, at the beauty parlour I used to get almost Rs 450 a day, which also included tips from the customers. However, my friendship with Omprakash continued." 

However, the friendship turned toxic when one day, Omprakash shot nude videos of Mujahid. He threatened to leak his video online if Mujahid didn't follow his orders. Since then, Omprakash started harassing him sexually. 

Mujahid said, "Omprakash used to call me to his rented accommodation where he used to harass me sexually. I didn’t have any option than to obey his orders as he had threatened to put my videos on the internet, also he threatened me that he would kill my father if I raised an alarm." 

On June 3, things turned topsy-turvy. When Omprakash called Mujahid to his accommodation, he snatched his mobile phone and other belongings. He then sedated him. When Mujahid finally gained consciousness, he was shocked to hear what Ompraksh said to him. “I woke up to the horrifying words of Om Prakash, who told me that I am a woman now and he would take me to Lucknow and would marry me. He also threatened that If I resisted, he would kill my father," said Mujahid in the interview. 

He further added that he couldn't believe what happened to him. A sharp pain in the abdomen led to his realisation that his genitals were missing. Recounting his experience, Mujahid said, “It took me some moments to realize what actually had happened to me. I didn’t even have my mobile phone, I took some hospital staff’s phone to call my parents and asked them to reach the hospital immediately." 

Lamenting on his despair, Mujahid said, “Allah unhe kabhi maaf nahi karega (God will never forgive them). I want justice. I am hopeful that UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ji would help me and would make sure that the wrong doers get the strictest punishment."

Mijahid's father Mohammed Yameen accused Omprakash and the hospital staff of performing nonconsensual surgery on his son. When he received a call from his son, he rushed to the hospital. In the interview, he said, "Be it Om Prakash or the doctors, all are hand in gloves. I want action against Dr Farooqi, the main surgeon who performed the surgery. I want to ask the hospital management why they didn’t ask for the ID proof of my son and Om Prakash, who posed to be his father. On the basis of the IDs, they could have concluded the fact that they are not father-son." 

Doctors denied the allegation 

However, the doctors of the medical college claim that Mujahid underwent the sex reassignment surgery with consent. Chief Medical Superintendent Kirti Goswami said that Mujahid had been visiting the hospital regularly for the last two months to meet plastic surgeon Dr Raza Farooqui. He said that he identified as a woman and wanted to undergo sex change surgery. 

Goswami also said that Dr Farooqui had referred Mujahid to psychiatrists to get his medical condition assessed as this is a prerequisite before performing such surgeries. Only after two psychiatrists deemed Mujahid mentally fit, the surgery was performed on him. 

"The man came here to get admitted on June 4 and his operation was conducted on June 6. All these procedures are legal and were conducted under the supervision of Dr Farooqui," Goswami said.

Backing her claim with evidence Goswami added that the authorities have a video of the surgery in which Mujahid can be clearly seen discussing his desire to have sex change surgery. The video, Goswami said, serves as strong evidence that Mujahid's decision to undergo sex change surgery was consensual and well-informed. 

Protest held outside the hospital

The case has led to an outrage among the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) who staged a protest outside the medical college. The union members accused the doctors of performing illegal organ trade and other activities.  

Farm leader Shyam Pal said, "I believe there is a very big racket going on here where they remove vital organs of the body and sell them at a higher price.” Pal has demanded a compensation of Rs 2 crore for Mujahid. 

Circle Officer of Khatauli Police Station in Muzaffarnagar, Ramashish Singh said, "There was a case here in which a person was operated for sex change. His family members alleged that he was misled by another person and the operation was done. A sit-in protest was held here to get a fair investigation done in this matter and whatever allegations have been made by them have been taken into consideration."

He further added, "A case has been registered in which a person alleged that he was misled by another person and was made to undergo a sex change surgery. We have registered the case under sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 420 (cheating) and 377 (unnatural offence) of IPC."

Singh said that further investigation into the case is underway.
