On the auspicious day of Pran Pratishtha when Lord Ram's idol was consecrated in the Ram temple of Ayodhya, a Muslim woman gave birth to a boy and named him Ram Rahim. She said that that name denoted Hindu-Muslim unity.
Many women in Uttar Pradesh scheduled their deliveries on the day of the Pran Pratishtha. Farzana from Firozabad was one of them. Dr Naveen Jain, the in-charge of the District Women's Hospital in Firozabad said that both the mother and the baby boy are fine. "The child’s grandmother Husna Banu has named him Ram Rahim," Dr Jain added. Husna Banu said that she has named the baby Ram Rahim to give out a message of Hindu-Muslim Unity.
Other women who named their babies after Lord Ram
Farzana was not the only woman who replicated the enthusiasm of Pran Pratishtha by naming their babies after Lord Ram. Seema Dwivedi, acting in charge of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Kanpur’s Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, said that 25 deliveries were performed in the hospital. Out of the 25 infants, 10 were girls. All the infants were delivered normally and were healthy.
Dwivedi further said that Bharti Mishra, one of the women who delivered their babies on Pran Pratishtha, named her baby boy as Ram. Mishra believed that by naming her baby after Lord Ram, the bay would have a positive personality. Other mothers too named their infants after Lord Ram like Raghav, Raghvendra, Raghu and Ramendra.
Ashwini Bagli, another woman who gave birth to a girl on the day of Pran Pratishtha, named her baby Sita. She said, "It's an auspicious day and our family wanted to get the delivery done on a historic day when Lord Ram is back in Ayodhya. I gave birth to a baby girl on this auspicious day and so, we are planning to name our baby Sita."
In Karnataka's Vijayapura, 30-year-old Boramma said, "Being a devotee of Ram, we have decided to name our newborn as Shri Ram."
In government-run hospitals of Odisha's Kendrapara, at least six babies were named after Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.
How hospitals prepped for Pran Pratishtha deliveries
Since many deliveries were scheduled on Monday, hospitals were decorated by installing idols of Lord Ram. In the Sambhal district, a miniature Ram temple was set up inside the delivery room of a private hospital in Chandausi. Pregnant women bowed down before the temple and offered prayers before delivering their babies.
Dr Vandana Saxena said that on the occasion of the consecration of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, she decorated the delivery rooms and also wrapped the newborns in saffron-coloured clothes. She also placed a Ram idol in the newborns' room.
