With the announcement of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election schedule on Friday, Delhi saw the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).Vijay Dev, the state election commissioner for Delhi, also revealed that the nomination period for the MCD elections will open on November 7.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which was formed earlier this year, combines the east, north, and south civic bodies of Delhi. Only two pockets—the Delhi Cantonment Board, which oversees the cantonment area, and the New Delhi Municipal Council, which primarily manages Lutyens' Delhi—will remain outside the MCD's purview. This leaves 96% of the national capital under its jurisdiction.

Following the delimitation process, voting will take place in 250 municipal wards, according to Dev, as quoted by ANI. Dev also stated, "42 seats are set aside for scheduled castes (SCs). 21 of the 42 seats reserved for SC will go to women. There will be 104 seats reserved for women."

The Delhi State Election Commissioner said that the notification period will begin on November 7 and end on November 14. Moreover, the deadline to withdraw from consideration is November 19th. The polls will open for voting on December 4, and the results will be made public on December 7.

For more than 15 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) controlled the formerly three municipal corporations (EDMC, SDMC, and NDMC). The three corporations were combined into MCD by the national government this year. The three main parties competing for seats in the Delhi local body election are the Bharatiya Janata Party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Congress. However, according to reports, the main conflict is anticipated to occur between the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party.
