Saki Naka rape: In a horrific incident from Mumbai, Maharashtra, a 30-something woman was allegedly raped and her private parts brutalised with a rod inserted inside, according to reports on Friday. Police reportedly found her lying unconscious at Saki Naka area on Khairani road. She is currently in hospital, her condition critical.
One accused is booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (relating to rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as per ANI. Police suspect more people may have been involved in the sexual assault and a probe is underway.
Mumbai police received a call around 3.30 AM about a woman lying in a pool of blood at Saki Naka around 3:30 AM, India Today reports. She was rushed to a hospital in Ghatkopar where doctors noted the insertion of a rod in her genitals.
Saki Naka Rape Case A Shocker: Similar Cases
The brutal case of alleged rape and mutilation has sparked outrage on social media, with several netizens alluding to it as a 'Nirbhaya'-like case, referencing the 2012 Delhi gangrape. The 23-year-old woman, now deceased, had suffered major internal injuries owing to rape and assault with a rod.
There have been other such headlines speaking of brutal rape against women in India in recent times as well.
