A woman in Mumbai reportedly died after falling into a drain which was overflowing due to heavy downpours, police said. She was identified as 45-year-old Vimal Anil Gaikwad. The incident occured at around 9:20 p.m. in the city's MIDC area of suburban Andheri. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials said, "She was rescued by the Mumbai fire brigade and sent to Cooper Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by doctors."
Waterlogging In Mumbai
The incessant rains in Mumbai have caused waterlogging, affecting railways and traffic. According to reports, several railway commuters walked on tracks at the Chunabhatti Railway station as the train service was disturbed by the rains. Other areas like Kurla East area, Nehru Nagar, and Chembur also witnessed heavy traffic snarls.
A landslide-like calamity was reported at the Mumbra bypass at around 11:30 p.m., causing traffic disruptions for at least 3 hours. Fire officer Swapnil Sarnobat told the media, "The traffic department also controlled the jam from one side. Fortunately, there is no news of any loss of life. After clearing the road, the movement of vehicles going towards Thane started."
Mumbai Police, Corporation Take Action
Other than on-ground operations, the Mumbai Police has also been taking action on social media by cautioning citizens to stay indoors as much as possible. The official X handle of the city police shared that a Red Alert in some areas. Schools and colleges have also been shut down for September 26.

The BMC also shared on its social media that a Red Alert has been issued to notify citizens to stay indoors. The Corporation also asserted to stay aware of unofficial announcements or rumours. They also shared a helpline number 1916 for further help or information.
