A mother struggling with mental illness took the life of her 11-year-old daughter by stranguling her with a dupatta. Subsequently, she attempted to end her own life by cutting her wrist with a knife. The tragic incident happened on February 15 at 10:30 pm in Borivali, Mumbai, within the family's rented apartment, where they resided with the father.
As per the reports, the mother, 46-year-old Rekha, was undergoing treatment for mental health issues for ten years at two hospitals in Andheri and Baroda, respectively. However, she had skipped her medication for the past three days.
What really happened?
On the day of the incident, the father was sitting in the living room when the mother locked herself and her daughter in a room. The father, a local shop owner, could hear the screams of his daughter, who was accusing her mother of trying to harm her. But after some time, the screams stopped, and no one was opening the door.
The father then reported to the police at Kasturba Police Station. The officers rushed to the spot, broke through the door, and found the daughter lying next to the mother with a dupatta around her neck. The mother, on the other hand, was surrounded by a pool of blood. Both were immediately taken to Shatabdi Hospital.
But, unfortunately, 11-year-old Ruhaani Solanki was declared dead by the doctors. The mother, Rekha, is undergoing treatment.
The police have started investigating the case and will soon record the statements of the mother and father.
This is not the first time that the worst brunt of mental health illness of the mother was faced by her child.

As per the Police, the woman was unwell and was battling with an illness. Simultaneously, she also slipped into depression.
