A 19-year-old girl was strangled by her family and then dumped on a beach in Vasai, Mumbai on Sunday. The family of the girl dumped her on the beach believing that she had died. The girl's family allegedly tried to kill her because she was in love with a man from another community.
A farmer noticed that the girl was lying in the bushes at Suruchi beach in Vasai. Subsequently, the farmer informed the local police. Later on, the girl had regained consciousness and started crying. According to the Times of India, the girl has been admitted to J B Petit Civic Hospital, where her condition is said to be stable.
Senior inspector Anant Parad said that her parents, aged 55 and 50, and 25-year-old brother have been arrested. However, her two younger siblings had no role in the crime.
According to the police, the girl was in love with a man but when her parents learned about the relationship, they opposed it. Her parents tried convincing her against continuing the relationship, but she was persistent about marrying him.

On Sunday, on the pretext of going out for a walk, her parents and elder brother allegedly took her to the beach before noon. They allegedly tried to strangle her using her own dupatta (scarf). Assuming that she was killed, they dumped her in the bushes and returned to their residence in Vasai.
The survivor narrated the incident to the police. Her parents and brother were arrested on Monday. The girl’s family were booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 307 for an attempt to murder and 325 for grievous hurt. The Police said that they will check if the man was also threatened by the girl’s family.

As per the report, they have been remanded to police custody till Thursday by a Vasai court. Her parents told police that if their daughter married a man from another religion, it would be difficult for them to get alliances for their other two daughters. Subsequently, the police seized the cellphones of the family. Further investigation of the case is going on.
