Two lawyers along with their five other staff members were accused of a rape and molestation case. They were granted interim bail by the Mumbai court on Wednesday.
A 35-year-old woman working as an advocate in a firm registered a case against two lawyers and five other staffers in a legal firm. The woman had said that the main accused had raped her on the pretext of giving her an increased salary. Based on her complaint an FIR was filed on Monday.
The main accused in the rape and molestation case moved a pre-arrest bail plea before the sessions court. The advocate of one of the accused men informed the court that the woman had previously filed a similar FIR. This case was withdrawn by her. The advocate further added that this new FIR is also on similar lines, according to reports.
The advocate then reportedly presented the court orders against the woman and also a list of five to six FIRs registered by her under section 376 (rape) of the IPC.
In her statement, the woman said that she was promised Rs 1.50 lakh monthly salary at the south Mumbai-based firm. She added that she was raped by the main accused and another lawyer. She further said that she was molested inside the office by five other staff members.
The woman also said that the main accused had promised her the above-mentioned salary on the firm's letterhead and an appointment letter. And later he had raped her, she said in her statement.
The two lawyers and their five staff members were accused under sections 376 (rape), 380 (theft in dwelling house), 385 (extortion), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), and 354 (Assault of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC.
The sessions court heard the argument and said that the possibility of dispute over professional issue cannot be ruled out in this case. And hence, additional sessions judge S P Agarwal granted protection from arrest to the two lawyers and five staff members till the next hearing on August 2.
