Mumbai: Couple Murdered By Girl's Father After Inter-Faith Marriage

A husband and wife were allegedly killed by the woman's father and brother due to the interfaith marriage. The man reportedly was a Hindu while the woman belonged to a Muslim family.

A husband and wife were allegedly killed by the woman's father and brother due to the interfaith marriage. The man reportedly was a Hindu while the woman belonged to a Muslim family.

As reported by The Indian Express, the man, together with his son and his son's friend, conspired to commit the murder. The victim was identified as 22-year-old Karan Ramesh Chandra.

Allegedly, Gulnaz's 50-year-old, Gora Raisuddin Khan and 22-year-old brother, Salman Khan own a small garment business. Last year, despite the family's opposition, Gulnaz married Chandra. Soon after, the word spread in the society. 

The family felt extremely embarrassed especially the father and the brother. And therefore, decided to kill him. They came to Mumbai and asked Chandra to meet them telling him the reason was to resolve the issue. They along with a friend of Salman, Mohammad Kaif took him to a deserted area in Govandi and slit his throat and threw him into the well.

Later the same night, Gulnaaz questioned the duo and in the fear of her complaining to the police, they took her to Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai where she was strangled and thrown into a jungle.

Police Investigation

The Mumbai Police has detained three individuals and taken three minors into custody in relation to the homicide of the couple.

According to an official, the murders were discovered during the inquiry by the RCF police station staff into the case of an unidentified male body recovered from a well in a remote telecom factory area in Govandi on October 14. Following the recovery of the body, the police initiated a murder case and released a photograph of the deceased, seeking information about his identity.

The postmortem examination report indicated that the cause of the man's death was a throat wound inflicted by a sharp object. The police filed a case and commenced their inquiry.

On October 14, residents notified the Govandi police about discovering an unidentified body in a well in the Mankhurd region.

According to the police, the suspects were apprehended on October 16 and presented before the court the next day, where they were subsequently granted an 11-day period of police custody.

Furthermore, Salman's additional underage friends, three minors, who were also involved in Chandra's murder have been held in custody by the police. All the accused are facing charges of homicide under Section 302 and tampering with evidence under Section 201.
