After the movie Dangal gave us all the right reasons to celebrate daughters, Bollywood is back with another movie. Poorna is a biopic based on Malavath Poorna, a young tribal girl from a small village in Telangana, who dared to dream big by climbing the Mount Everest. Aditi Inamdar from Hyderabad has been roped in to play her character. Directed by Rahul Bose, the movie is sure to move the audience's heart with its interesting story line.
The movie's trailer was released recently.
Poorna is an inspiring story of a 13 year old tribal girl who climbed Mt. Everest
When I first got the script, I felt ashamed that I hadn’t heard about Poorna before. We talk about PV Sindhu, Dipa Karmakar, Sania Mirza and Saina Nehwal, which is great but no one knows about this incredible story of Poorna. I felt this is a phenomenal story. If a Bollywood scriptwriter said, ‘I am writing about a girl who is 13-year-old and climbed Mt Everest,’ people around him would have said, ‘Be a little reasonable, at least make her age 16!’ So, I knew this was a winner. As a producer, I knew this. When I met Amit (Amit Patni, film’s co-producer), he was convinced in two meetings. So, we never had doubts,” Rahul Bose said.

A major part of the movie has been shot at places where the real-life Poorna grew up and trained. Rahul Bose, in an interview, expressed his ardent desire to shoot on Everest but he feared that his crew members wouldn't have been able to get acclimatized to the harsh conditions.
"The story of the youngest girl in history to climb Mt. Everest looks so fascinating. I experienced goosebumps watching the trailer. The tagline which says Ladkiyan Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hai is the loud and clear message that should resonate with everyone." says Nikita Arora, a management student based in Delhi after watching the trailer.
We hope the movie will play a monumental role in dismantling archaic mindsets that prefer boys over girls. It will definitely redefine the meaning of "courage" and how we perceive it. A tribal girl fighting against all odds to reach the zenith is exactly the kind of story we need to impart some important moral lessons in today's society.
The movie is slated to release on 31st March, 2017. Watch the official trailer here:
