Woman Throws Son In Crocodile-Infested Canal After Fight With Husband

In a heartwrenching incident, a mother threw her six-year-old son with special needs into a canal infested with crocodiles on Saturday in Uttara Kannada District. The body of the child was found on Sunday morning in a mutilated state. He lost his right arm and had several crocodile bites on his body. The boy was declared dead due to the crocodile bites. The mother, Savitri, alleged that she committed the crime after fighting with her husband, Ravi, who always gave her taunts about the deaf and dumb child. Read on to learn more about the incident. 

As per the reports, 32-year-old Savitri used to work as a house help while her husband, Ravi, is a mason. The couple often used to fight over their deaf and dumb child Vinod. The duo also had a two-year-old younger son.

Details of the incident

A similar fight took place on Saturday, the tragic day of the incident. Frustrated Savitri took Vinod and threw him into the canal. Local people alerted the police who launched a search along with fire officials. After the search throughout the night, the body of Vinid was found on Sunday morning completely mutilated by crocodiles.  

In police interrogation, Savitri said that Ravi often used to taunt her and ask her to kill Vinod by throwing him in the canal. Holding her husband responsible for the incident, she said, "He used to keep saying let the son die and that all he does is eat. Let him be, I'd say. If my husband keeps saying that, how much torture can my son endure? Where will I go share my pain." 

The police have registered a murder case against Savitri and Ravi for the murder of their son and have arrested them. 

Similar incidents of mothers killing their children

In March, a 40-year-old mother strangulated her 19-year-old daughter because she was dating against her mother's wishes. The incident happened at Nathu Ganpat Chawl in Kherwadi when the mother killed the daughter after a scuffle and tried to hide the crime by saying that the daughter had an epilepsy attack. 

A mother struggling with mental illness took the life of her 11-year-old daughter by strangulating her with a dupatta. Subsequently, she attempted to end her own life by cutting her wrist with a knife. The tragic incident happened on February 15 at 10:30 pm in Borivali, Mumbai, within the family's rented apartment, where they resided with the father.
