Mother, Daughter Attempt Suicide In Kolkata: 7 Things To Know

The police reported on Thursday that they discovered the lifeless body of a middle-aged woman and rescued another unconscious woman from a hotel room located in the southern part of the city.

In central Kolkata, a woman in her fifties was tragically found dead in a hotel room, where she had been residing with her 34-year-old daughter for over a month. The daughter was discovered unconscious and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The police believe that both of them used sleeping pills to attempt suicide.

The police found a detailed suicide note written in a notebook, along with several medicine strips scattered in the room. The circumstances leading to their suicide attempt remain unclear.

• According to the suicide note, the woman had lost her husband a few years ago, and their lives had been challenging with financial constraints and health issues, including depression.
• Their neighbours revealed that the woman and her daughter had left their home several months ago. 
• Further investigation uncovered that they had been staying in various hotels across the city for the past four months. They checked into the Kyd Street hotel more than a month ago, paying ₹4500 per day for the room, for a total expenditure of ₹1.98 lakh.
• It was discovered that the woman had sold a plot of land in south Kolkata, receiving Rs. 6 lakh, and had told the hotel that their house was under construction. The reason for their prolonged stay in a hotel remains unclear.
• Hotel authorities informed the police when the two didn't respond to their scheduled check-out on July 19.
• Last night, when the police arrived at the scene, made a distressing discovery when they found two unconscious women in their room. 
• Both women were immediately rushed to the SSKM hospital, where one of them was unfortunately declared dead, while the other is currently receiving medical treatment. A police officer reported that they are actively investigating the matter to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident.
