Shaista Parveen, the spouse of slain gangster Atiq Ahmad, has been added to the "most wanted" list by the UP Police. She is the daughter of a retired police constable, and her involvement in her husband's criminal activities has transformed her from a homemaker to a significant player in his empire. Police are currently searching for her, and a reward of Rs. 50,000 has been announced for any information that leads to her arrest.
Shaista, a 51-year-old woman, suffered the loss of both her son Asad and her husband Atiq within just two days. Asad met his end during a police encounter in Jhansi, while Atiq and his brother Ashraf were fatally shot in Prayaraj.
Shaista has evaded law enforcement officials since the video showing Atiq and Ashraf's deaths was uploaded to the internet. There were some rumours previously that Shaista had turned herself in at Atiq's funeral, but these rumours were all deemed to be false.
Most Wanted Gangster Shaista Praveen
Shaista, from Damupur village in Prayagraj, is the daughter of Mohammed Haroon, a retired police constable with a respectable service record.
Shaista lived with her father in the government police quarters and was the eldest among her seven siblings. As described by a retired schoolteacher, she was very courteous and never missed parent-teacher meetings. One of her brothers currently works as a principal at a madrasa.
Shaista began as a homemaker, but eventually became increasingly engaged with her husband's illegal activities, particularly in the wake of Atiq's incarceration.
Shaista played a significant part in managing Atiq's unlawful operations and was also involved in the plot to assassinate lawyer Umesh Pal.
Reportedly, Shaista and Atiq discussed the murder of Pal during her visit to Sabarmati Jail in February.
Atiq had requested a phone and SIM card from his acquaintance to be delivered to him in jail, and provided the name of the police officer carrying out the delivery. The phone was sent some days after, which Atiq used it to communicate with the shooters as well as plan the crime.
Parveen has been involved in a total of four cases that have been registered in Prayagraj starting from 2009. Among these cases, three were related to cheating while one was for murder.
The initial trio of cases was lodged in Colonelganj over a decade ago, in 2009. These cases were classified under varying divisions of the Indian Penal Code such as 420, 467, 468, 471 and section 30 of the Arms Act
Shaista became a member of AIMIM in 2021, followed by joining BSP in January 2023. Her active role in the gang of Atiq earned her the title of godmother.
Mohammad Jishan, a relative of Atiq, revealed that Atiq had once directed his son Ali and a group of 25 armed individuals to force Jishan into transferring his land to Shaista and pay a sum of Rupees 5 crores.
The Uttar Pradesh police department is currently searching for Shaista Parveen, who may be in a state of iddah, a period of seclusion following the death of her husband and prevents outsiders from meeting with her. Additionally, the police are trying to track down Guddu Muslim, a co-accused in the Umesh Pal murder investigation.
