A recent survey based on the number of surgeries performed around the world in 2021 revealed an increase in the popularity of surgical as well as non-surgical procedures that people opted for. The number declined significantly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Global Survey on Aesthetic/Cosmetic Procedures was conducted by The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) which showed that plastic surgeons performed a total of 17.5 million non-surgical as well as 12.8 million surgical operations on people. The survey also revealed that cosmetic surgeries increased by 19.3 per cent as compared to the pre-pandemic and pandemic era and if you also think that breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery among people, here is an update for you.

Most Popular Cosmetic Surgery
Liposuction was reportedly concluded to be the most popular cosmetic surgery performed around the world followed by breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and abdominoplasty leading the top five surgical procedures list. Liposuction is a method of using suction to remove fat from various parts of the body like thighs, abdomen and buttocks. This is a body contouring procedure and not weight loss and it also helps in giving shape to the body.
Since liposuction is an invasive method, it requires a lot of recovery time. Global Survey Editor, Dr Ginaluca Campiglio reportedly said, "We noticed an interesting increase in surgical procedures related to so-called ‘body contouring’, such as liposuction, which is now ranked as the most common procedure, ahead of breast augmentation for the first time in many years, and also a similar emerging trend for abdominoplasty, thigh lift, and buttock augmentation. The lower increase in breast augmentation, and related increase in implant removals, also reflects our experience following publication of reports on BIA-ALCL in the preceding year".
Breast augmentation was revealed to be the most popular cosmetic procedure among females around the world and saw an increase of just 0.5 per cent over a course of four years. Meanwhile, implant removal surgeries saw a massive increase of 22.6 per cent and breast lift surgery increased by 31.4 per cent since last year. The number of surgeries around the world dropped during the pandemic with about a 10.9 per cent decrease in surgical procedures. 2021 revived the market of plastic surgeries which increased significantly even as compared to the pre-pandemic era.
