Morgan Freeman is the latest bigwig in Hollywood to get accused of harassment, as per a detailed CNN report. On Thursday, CNN published an investigation into a number of allegations of sexual harassment and “inappropriate behaviour” against the 80-year-old actor. The report details accounts from eight women who allegedly encountered such behaviour while at work.
Revelation from the report on Freeman and his production company
- Eight women told CNN they were the victim of sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviour from Freeman.
- The allegations include women’s encounters with him concerning inappropriate remarks about their bodies and clothing, as well as unwanted touching. One woman said that Freeman attempted to pull up her skirt and look beneath it on the set of the 2015 film Going in Style. The woman alleged that Freeman only stopped when his co-star Alan Arkin reprimanded him.
- Another production assistant revealed that women in the crew of the film, Dark Knight often talked about Freeman’s behaviour.
- One assistant mentioned how Freeman would often comment on the bodies of women on the sets.
Three entertainment journalists, including one of the article’s writers, Chloe Melas, revealed Freeman made inappropriate remarks during press promotions.
- The allegations include inappropriate conduct on movie sets and at Freeman’s production company, Revelations Entertainment. At least one incident reportedly was witnessed by Lori McCreary, Freeman's co-founder at Revelations Entertainment.
- The women said they never spoke publicly about Freeman's behaviour earlier because of their fear of losing their jobs.
The accusations against Freeman have also caused a stir on social media. Rose McGowan, an actress who has accused Harvey Weinstein of rape, tweeted that these revelations and conversations are not only important, but also better for the society.
Hi everyone, I know your idols are falling, I know it hurts to be disappointed, but imagine if that person you thought you knew from his image sexually harassed you. Stay the course, we will be better for this societally. The conversation must be had. #MorganFreeman
