In a historic move, thе Міѕѕ Unіvеrѕе раgеаnt has introduced new set of rules to its rooster, thereby boosting of changing with times. The beauty pageant, which celebrated its 70th edition last year, is in the process of making the biggest change to its selection process by reportedly allowing married women and mothers to participate from the onward editions.
As per reports, national pageant directors have received an email briefing on how the organisation has always strived to evolve with the times and the latest decision was the natural next step.
Miss Universe to allow married women, mothers to compete?
In an internal memo accessed by The National, the organisation said, “We all believe that women should have agency over their lives and that a human’s personal decisions should not be a barrier to their success.” The new rules are expected to be effective for the 72nd pageant, held in 2023.
Previously, only women aged between 18 and 28 who have never been married or had children were allowed to apply; however, there is still no confirmation on the age bracket. Also, an official confirmation on the new set of rules from Miss Universe Org is awaited.
Meanwhile, India's Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, 21, an actress, was crowned Miss Universe 2021 at the event, held in Eilat in Israel.
One of Sandhu's winning answers at the pageant was when she was asked for her advice to the young women watching her on how to deal with the pressures they face today.
