Three college students in Rajasthan's Jodhpur gangraped a 17-year-old Dalit girl who eloped with her boyfriend. The incident happened on the early hours of Sunday in Jodhpur campus where the three accused beat up the boyfriend and took turns raping the girl. A few hours later, the Rajasthan police arrested them.
Senior police officials stated that the accused were canvassing for a student leader seeking a ticket from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) wing of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) student union election. The ABVP had denied any knowledge and claimed that it had no links with the accused.

He appreciated the police for swiftly arresting the accused. He added his government would ensure that the survivor gets justice by punishing the accused with the strictest possible punishment.
The Dalit girl reportedly eloped with her boyfriend from Ajmer on Saturday. The duo had taken a bus and reached Jodhpur around 10.30 p.m. They had gone to a guest house where the caretaker, Suresh Jat, misbehaved with the girl, forcing the duo to leave the place, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Amrita Duhan said.
She then said that the duo had gone to Paota Chauraha, where the three accused, Samandar Singh Bhati, Dharmpal Singh, and Bhattam Singh, aged between 20 and 22, approached them. They befriended the girl and her boyfriend and offered them food and drinks.
After the girl and her boyfriend revealed themselves, the accused promised to help. Around 4 a.m., they took the duo to the hockey ground at the old campus of Jai Narayan Vyas University (JNVU) under the guise of taking them to the railway station.
On reaching the ground, the accused had beaten up the boy and held him hostage, while taking turns to rape the girl. The accused fled the scene once the morning walkers started arriving at the campus.
The girl’s boyfriend sought help from the morning walker, who informed the police about the incident. The cops immediately swung into action and launched a search team. A dog squad and a forensic Science Laboratory team were also sent to the spot.
A few hours after the incident, the accused were nabbed from a house in Ganeshpura, near Ratanada, in Jodhpur. They tried to escape but fell and injured themselves. While two of the accused fractured their legs, the third one injured his hand. All three were arrested after receiving treatment.
The accused, Samandar Singh, was a first-year student at JNVU; Dharm Pal Singh was a postgraduate student from the same university; and Bhattam Singh was pursuing a B.Ed. from Ajmer. The police have also arrested the caretaker of the guesthouse, who misbehaved with the girl.
An FIR has been filed, mentioning both incidents (misbehavior at the guesthouse and rape in the playground). The case has been filed under the POCSO Act and the SC and ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
